Instilling healthy routines in your children at a young age is important for their development and ensures a healthy lifestyle. Children have such creative minds and lots of energy to burn. Check out what they have to say about exercise....

Young children can participate in workout activities like ....

  1. Doing the monkey bars - make a fun obstacle course for your kids at the playground! Have them race across the monkey bars (safely) and scurry up the steps to the slide!

  2. Going on a family walk - family walks are a great way to burn calories after dinner and get your little ones sleepy before bedtime

  3. Doing jumping jacks - if the kids have a lot of steam, have them take a minute to do 50 jumping jacks.

  4. Doing bear crawls or crab walks - kids love using their imagination! Bear crawls and crab walks are a fun way to exercise the body and brain

  5. Jumping rope - jumping rope is not only a physical activity, but it helps exercise hand eye coordination

  6. Simon says & Red light green light - these are great games to play with a group of little ones!

  7. Doing a simple backyard obstacle course - set up a few things around the backyard and have your kids jump over and crawl under items in a race.

  8. Swimming at a local pool - Most communities have affordable community summer classes. Swimming at the pool helps build core and upper body strength.

  9. Cart Wheels - Cart wheels and stretching help you child become more flexible

  10. Get involved in sports - Often communities or the YMCA have affordable sports teams available for children of all ages that not only keep them active, but they also educate them on different sports. Information can be found here!

Make working out a daily activity! But, what happens if it rains? Short exercise videos are a great way to get off the couch and be active in the living room. Check out this one below that can be done right in front of a TV!
